My awesome (late) review of Picture This!

Hey sorry everyone. I just now remembered to post my review of the movie Picture This which premiered on ABC Family, Sunday. So let jump right into it shall we?

I really ended up liking this movie. Yes, it was like a copycat of a few other movies (A Cinderella Story anyone?) but it had some twists that made it unique. So the movie is about this girl, Mandy (Ashley Tisdale) who's mother died when she was young and now she lives alone with her overprotective father. I honestly didn't buy Ashley Tisdale as the "shy, unpopular girl" I mean would YOU not want to talk to a girl who was this pretty?

Moving on, Mandy, who's having her 18th birthday soon, decides to ask her dad who is supposedly "poor" to buy this super freaking new video phone (I looked up online the price. Dang near 500 dollars!) so she can be cool like everyone else. Her dad grants her this wish, along with contacts (Which he JUST NOW decided to buy for her. How convenient!) and a not-so-nice surprise. He's also purchased a video phone so he can always keep track of Mandy. He then brings up the idea of a 2 story apartment where she gets her own floor and he gets the other. Now, if I were Mandy, I would've told my dad to seriously get some help! She's not exactly keen on the idea herself. Mandy's had a crush on the most popular guy in school, Drew Patterson. Played by the freaking sex-a-lexi Robbie Amell. See for yourself.
See what I mean? I'd want him too! =] Back to the story, Mandy lives in an old run down neighborhood and Drew is Mr. Rich and Popular who lives in some gated community. Drew's dating another typical bitch blond high school girl. I mean, this is getting WAAAY old. That character has been done 383029820 million times already! I can't even remember the character's name to prove my point! Mandy's 2 BFF's (played by Degrassi:TNG girls Lauren Collins and Shenae Grimes) who also look like supermodels, are also "unpopular." Again, not buyin' it. Putting glasses on Ashley Tisdale doesn't make her ugly. ESPECIALLY WHEN ON THE SIDE THE GLASSES SAY D&G!!!! Could they at least have went without a freaking expensive name brand to fit the character more? Drew begins to fall for Mandy after he rescues her from almost drowning. But his girlfriend will of course try to make her life miserable. She goes with Drew, and tells her father she's going somwhere else. While there, Mandy drops and phone. And just who is there to find it? Well duh! Drew's girl of course! She shows a video of Drew and Mandy hugging to Mandy's father. He realizes she's lied to him and he grounds her. But not before Drew asks her out to this party he's having on "the other side" Mandy lies to her father again saying she needs to study for finals with her friends. Her father decides he's going to call her every 30 minutes to make sure she isn't tricking him. Mandy goes on a crazy adventure with her friends and has to trick her father every step of the way, while also dealing with the forgettable bitch character as well. I'm not going to give away the ending, but it should come as a surprise to people- at first anyway. Now for the rest of the review. I think the movie felt waaaay too rushed. Even though it was 2 hours (including commercials) the movie didn't give any time for development. 3 minutes in the movie is full swing. I don't like slow movies, but this was just a bit too fast for me. It was cute, and I'm not saying it was horrible, just not much different from other "poor, unpopular girl gets the hottie" stories. I would suggest checking it out because Ashley Tisdale, Lauren Collins, and Shenae Grimes are all awesome. As is Robbie Amell. One of my favorite parts is when she sings Shadows of the Night. I love this song and her rendition is great! So there you have it. Thanks for reading. More to come.
